rick perry

kohenari:

The good folks at ThinkProgress pass along the following:

Perry’s EXTREMELY anti-gay ad as his campaign flounders:

“Gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas.”

I’m more than a little tired of the whole “War on Christmas” trope in this country. If you think the garish lights, inflatable lawn ornaments, jingling bells outside of stores and on street corners, television specials, radio stations that switch their programming for months, television commercials, and Christmas songs played in every store all amounts to the fact that you’re being prevented from openly celebrating your holiday, then you’re a moron.

But what is so much more tiresome and generally awful than the above is the nonsensical public war against people who identify as LBGTQ. Does Rick Perry actually want to argue that some people shouldn’t be eligible to serve in the military because his religion says he shouldn’t tolerate him? Does he think this is somehow presidential? Not only is it not presidential, it’s not gubernatorial. In fact, it ought to disqualify him from public office … if every other thing he has said hasn’t already done so.

If you don’t like the idea of equal rights for all human beings, stay home and keep your antiquated ideas to yourself; keep out of my public sphere.

This has been a rant.
